For over 30 years, Stan Van Vleck has successfully resolved clients' disputes with government agencies in California.

Stan represents clients on a broad array of governmental problems encompassing basic permitting to the most complex issues. Stan’s extensive experience working for high level officials such as a US Senator, the Governor of California, and a California Legislator give him a thorough understanding of California’s complex politics and political processes, including administrative proceedings. This enables him to represent clients on legal issues involving almost any agency or government organization. Stan advocates on behalf of his clients on a daily basis to protect their rights, secure and protect permits or licenses, or assist clients on government procurement matters. Stan is unique in his capacity to move an issue to the top of an agency, involve the Governor’s office or Legislature to resolve a legal issue when it is in the best interest for clients.

Stan’s clients appreciate his efficient and tenacious approach to achieve their desired results. He was recently recognized by the world’s largest engineering company, Siemens, as their top advocate in the United States and by the regional Chamber of Commerce as its Volunteer of the Year for the key business wins he was able to help deliver for the region.


Professional, Community And Pro Bono Involvement

  • Stan is a graduate of the Agricultural Leadership Fellowship, where he engaged with top U.S. leaders as well as those in foreign countries such as China, Uzbekistan, and Iran. He is also a graduate of the American Leadership Forum.
  • Stan serves on the Board of the California Chamber of Commerce with some of the top executives in California helping to advocate on behalf of California businesses.
  • Stan is the Vice Chair of the Sacramento Metro Chamber Board and is responsible for policy for the region. Stan also served as the Chair for the Coalition of business and union interests to build an arena in Sacramento.
  • Stan serves on the Board for the Sacramento Downtown Partnership with owner of downtown real estate as well as some of the regions top elected officials. The Partnership represents the interests of the downtown for redevelopment and other similar issues.
  • Stan serves on the Board for the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s College of Agriculture. He also served on the California Cattlemen’s Board for 14 years and Chaired its Land Use and Taxation Committee for 10 years as well as Vice Chair of the California State University System’s Alumni Association.

  • Represented one of the largest grocery chains in the US to successfully solve a trade barrier with the state of California by helping to create a more efficient and less expensive legal approval process for internationally exporting goods.
  • Represented one of world’s largest medical imaging companies to successfully negotiate with California’s health agency officials and legal counsel to develop lawful ways protect trade secrets worth billions of dollars.
  • Represented a Fortune 500 consumer retailer against the California Attorney General’s office where client’s exposure exceeded $100 million and successfully negotiated the case in a manner met client’s goals and significantly reduced the exposure to class action and B&P Code Section 17200 lawsuits.
  • Successfully represented a large telecommunications company with s bid protest on the billion dollar CalNET contract, which included a course of working with the Legislature and Governor’s office.
  • Represented agricultural chemical manufactures to successfully negotiate penalties for alleged pesticide mil tax violations.
  • Represented a large landowner to successfully appeal an alleged significant Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA) violation.
  • Represented a large landowner to successfully appeal violations of waste laws by alleged by Cal Recycle and local agencies.

Stan worked his way through undergrad and law school, through his investments and hard work he has been able to become one of the largest landowners in the region. His experience as business owner helps him to better appreciate and understand his client’s needs. Being a large business owner has also helped open doors and opportunities to gain experiences that are not normally available to attorneys.
