Celebrating Excellence: Sean Filippini Inducted into Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Inaugural Hall of Fame

December 12, 2024

Downey Brand proudly congratulates partner Sean Filippini on his induction into the Big Brothers Big Sisters’ inaugural Hall of Fame during its 60th Anniversary Gala celebration last month.

Sean’s dedication to mentoring and empowering youth has been exemplary. He initially connected with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area in 2005 when he volunteered to become a Big Brother to an 11-year-old boy from a single-parent home in Sacramento. He and his “little brother” hit it off immediately and spent the next 7 years paired as a big/little until Sean’s little brother turned 18. Sean and his little brother spent hundreds of hours together over the years, focusing their relationship on their common love—playing and watching sports together. Sean’s dedication as a Big Brother led to him being named Big Brother of the Year in 2008.

In addition to his hands-on involvement, Sean has been a consistent financial supporter of the organization since 2005. Sean has also spent 10 years on the Big Brothers Board of Directors over two decades, including leading Big Brothers Big Sisters as its Board Chair from 2019 to 2022.

Sean is among six other outstanding inductees—Ed Gillum, Larrie Grenz, John Lane, Dave Lucchetti, Jim Michelmore, and Richard Simpson—each of whom has made significant contributions to advancing Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission of creating impactful one-to-one mentoring relationships that empower youth to reach their full potential.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a national transformative mentoring organization committed to empowering the next generation. Since 1904, the organization has worked under the core belief that every child possesses incredible potential. By creating and sustaining meaningful, one-to-one mentoring relationships between caring adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), Big Brothers Big Sisters inspires positive change that lasts a lifetime. Big Brothers Big Sisters has more than 235 agencies across the United States and has mentored more than two million children over the past 10 years.
