Chambers USA 2022 Recognizes Downey Brand’s Environmental and Energy Practice Groups and Four of its Attorneys
June 16, 2022
Downey Brand is pleased to announce that four attorneys and two of its practice areas have been recognized by Chambers & Partners in its 2022 Chambers USA guide of top law firms and attorneys.
Chambers USA is a nationally-recognized legal directory that ranks top lawyers and law firms throughout the country. Their rankings are derived from research of technical legal ability, client service, team depth, commercial vision and business understanding, diligence, and value for money spent. Unlike many other legal awards, client reviews are heavily considered in these rankings.
Downey Brand was recognized for its excellence in both environmental law and energy (state regulatory & litigation) law. Partners Brian Cragg, Michael Day, and Jed Gibson were each honored individually for their exemplary work in the latter category. All three attorneys were acknowledged by clients for their outstanding legal experience. Michael Day, an accomplished attorney noted for his expertise in CPUC ratemaking proceedings, was described as “extremely effective.” Brian Cragg, noted for his CPUC advocacy on behalf of independent power producers, “does a wonderful job for his clients; he is effective and good at advocating for their positions,” a client said. Lastly, Jed Gibson, who regularly advises clients on California energy regulatory policy and provides representation before the CPUC and CEC, was applauded for “active work” at the CEC.
In regards to Downey Brand’s recognition in the environmental law category, Chambers USA mentioned that Downey Brand has “an impressive environment and natural resources group.” They continued by saying the firm is “skilled in handling a broad range of land, air, surface, and groundwater matters for public and private corporations.”
In addition, outside counsel Jay-Allen Eisen was recognized individually for his prowess in appellate litigation. Jay-Allen’s practice encompasses a wide variety of matters, including commercial, constitutional, environmental, and family law. “He knows the courts really well and is a high-quality appellate lawyer,” said a client.
