Downey Brand: Sharing the Warmth This Holiday Season
December 10, 2024
And that’s a wrap for Downey Brand’s annual Winter Coat Drive! Throughout the month of November, our firm collected nearly 60 new and gently used coats to donate to individuals and families in need of extra warmth and comfort this holiday season.
Last week, we delivered the coats to City of Refuge Sacramento, a community-based organization that exists to empower individuals to make personal changes that lead to a strong and thriving community. With the belief that personal transformation leads to collective thriving, City of Refuge opens its doors, extends invitations, and sets tables for those seeking a place of belonging and home.
Over the years, City of Refuge has provided refuge and transitional housing to more than 600 women, and often their children, living in marginalized communities of Sacramento. Their services include resources for individuals experiencing homelessness, reentry support for the formerly incarcerated, and aid for victims of sexual exploitation, trafficking, or abuse. They also offer programs for children and youth, workforce development, community outreach, life enrichment experiences, and self-defense classes. Co-founders Rachelle and Loren Ditmore currently run two homes in Oak Park, as well as their main building that is a community gathering space for classes, trainings, counseling and general fellowship.
What a privilege to be able to contribute to their mission and support the life-changing work they do every day!
